They Say...

On a small street
in a petite venue
in a big town is Tonic
Lounge, a bar that
could be mistaken for
a jazz den in the old
Jewish quarter of Paris.
The décor is French bourgeois
meets provincial kitsch, and the beverage is a raspberry and lychee martini... mmmm, the barman is an expert... one of the best places I've been in a long time.

Everyone who has been to Tonic Lounge seems fond of it and it’s probably because it feels like a party at your mate's house- if your mate had a penchant for red velvet curtains boudoir furniture and soft lighting (as well as a bar in his lounge room).

"Unwind", The Sun Herald

It's a The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe-style fantasy for adults... It mixes the delightful unpredictability of a share house and the illicit feel of a down town speakeasy: sexy, shabby, cozy.

"Good Living", Sydney Morning Herald

You'll feel at home in Tonic Lounge, a terrace house converted into a bar. Just like hanging in your mate's lounge room, but with a DJ, boudoir-style furnishings and bartender to shake your cocktails. Tonic is a place to chill and chat with your buddies.

The Sun Herald

The mood is always friendly, the crowd unpretentious and the lively atmosphere on weekend nights is proof you don't need that much space to have a good time.

The Good Living Web Site

Cool and intimate Kings Cross club bar set over two floors of a beautiful Victorian terrace house – it can feel so homely in here you might want to move in. Furnishings are those of a tumbledown manor house, the shabby chaise lounges and couches you might find in a senile millionaire's old mansion... Shout up a Tom Collins or a Gin Gimlet, listen to chilled-out unpretentious tunes filtered through hidden house speakers, and imagine you are in your own living room. It's just the Tonic.

This is my new favourite bar. I love it here! The atmosphere is great, feels like you're at a house party although they don't like it if you dance on the coffee table. The staff are friendly, they sometimes come out from behind the bar for a boogie at the end of the night. Drinks don't cost an arm and a leg and they have a fabulous selection of bottled beer. Get there early as after about 11pm, it is strictly one out, one in. Well worth the wait if you have to queue tho.

Rub your eyes and take quick scan, it feels like you've walked into someone's house... Your mate assures you that you're not trespassing, but it still feels too good to be true. They let you in wearing these shoes!? There’s a live band playing in what looks like... the lounge room!? And man - look at all those different beers!... With the staff shouting requests at the band, the band chatting to the punters and the punters trying out every Victorian chair in the place because they all look so comfy, the "exclusive" vibe quickly melts into a house party feel where the host is always on holidays. Or his parents are.
